Class of 2021 become Old Waconians

Wednesday 16th June 2021

Preparation for CHS Graduation started early on Wednesday morning to make sure everything was perfect for Year 13s final time on campus as students before becoming Old Waconians.

There were soundchecks and final speech preparations, along with the arrival of flowers, balloons and the laying out of prizes. Everything was finished and ready to go by 16:15pm, when the students started taking their seats in The Gym ready for the ceremony to begin.

The ceremony started with a welcome from Head, Mr. Smith, who thanked parents, via the live stream, and then spoke about the unforgettable time the Sixth Form have had at CHS.

It was then over to the School Council to share a few words. Head Boy, James and Head Girl Beth alongside their Deputies, Alice and Harry, made speeches dedicated to the Class of 2021. They each recognised the challenges involved in being at Sixth Form during a global pandemic, and how it has shaped them as young adults ready to embark on their future. The speech ended with a poem which perfectly encapsulated what it was to be a Waconian and what a special time they had at CHS.

The Special Prizes followed the speeches. Recognising the achievements of students who have pursued their passions. These prizes are awarded for individuals’ Co-Curricular contributions to life at CHS

Each form tutor shard citations about their Form and all their achievements. They offered words of wisdom for the future and spoke about how compassionate and resilient the Class of 2021 are.

Follow your path, enjoy the detours and pause to enjoy the view now and then. Be humble yet confident, decisive yet reflective. You’ll take wrong turnings, you’ll trip up along the way – just make sure you’re happy to call it your path’

Form Tutor and Head of Modern Languages, Mr Wilson

Each student was presented with their certificate on stage and CHS Sixth Form String Ensemble performed to a slide show of pictures, old and new, of the Class of 2021.

The ceremony ended with thanks from Assistant Head of Sixth Form, Mr. Jones. The students were invited to stay on campus for pizza, drinks and cupcakes, made by BuzzyBee Bakery which was started by two of our Old Waconians Millie and Lydia. The students who joined CHS at Reception took a trip down memory lane and returned to the Junior School for a picture together, and to reminisce about the time they have spent together since they were 4 years old.

Students continued taking photos, eating, drinking an reminiscing outside the Sixth Form Centre before it was time to head on to their own evening celebrations. Everyone, students and staff alike were walking on sunshine when graduation came to an end.

Congratulations to the Class of 2021 we cannot wait to see what you all do next!!
