End Of Year Celebrations 2021

At CHS, we always find a way to celebrate the end of an academic year. This year might be a little bit different but we still wanted to make sure staff and students had the best end to their school year at CHS!

Year 11 Celebration Ceremony

Thursday 17th June 2021

It was Year 11s turn to mark the end of their time in the Senior School. Held in The Gym. The stage was set, ready for the Year 11s to arrive, and the ceremony to start at 16:15pm.

Deputy Head, Mr. Axon, introduced Head, Mr. Smith who delivered his welcome speech. Mr. Smith congratulated Year 11 on finishing the year in unprecedented times and thanked the parents and teachers for all their support. Head of Year 11, Mr. Thorn, also congratulated the students, letting them know Covid-19 will not overshadow anything Year 11 have accomplished and that the year group have shown great resilience in the face of an uncertain school year.

Lily, Natasha and Charlotte were one group of performers who took to the stage, accompanied by guitarist Max, to perform an Abba Medley.

Special Prizes were presented to the pupils who have followed their passions and displayed the School’s Waconian Values of endeavour, resilience, integrity, compassion and contribution. Mr Thorn said it was difficult to choose just a few Waconians to receive these awards before CHS’s Year 11 Percussion Band Performed to a slideshow of pictures from Year 11’s days at CHS since Year 7.

Year 11 were then invited to spend some time together as a year group outside The Gym, the pupils signed each others shirts and took photos.

Congratulations Year 11 and good luck on results day. See you in Sixth Form!

Celebration Week Monday 28th June – Friday 2nd July 2021

Celebration Week was a chance for the rest of the School to reminisce as another academic year came to an end. Each year group had their own day to celebrate their achievements by watching a live streamed prize-giving assembly and visiting CHS’s first ever Thru The Hedge Festival to spend the afternoon celebrating in true CHS style.

The ceremony, delivered live from Holden Hall, was watched by parents, staff and pupils, giving everyone the chance celebrate together. Each year groups musical and academic talent was recognised with performances and prize-giving.

CHS staff recited a poignant poem, reminding everyone at CHS how they have come together to support each other, both in and outside the school, over the past year.

The musicians performed, prizes were awarded and Thru The Hedge Festival commenced! Wearing festival wristbands, everyone ate hotdogs and ice cream and revelled in the wide variety of activities on offer. Our own student DJs were on hand to provide a banging soundtrack to archery, zorb football, circus skills and penalty shoot-out.

There is always a reason to celebrate at CHS and this year was no exception. We hope everyone loved Thru The Hedge Festival 2021 and that you have a relaxing summer holiday!
