Art and Design

Our students work in three main specialist areas; painting, textiles and ceramics.

They experiment and explore a range of ideas and media with observational drawing at the core of everything they do.

We encourage individual experimentation at every stage and enhance learning by exposing students to external artists and designers and integrating trips to exhibitions and collections into the curriculum.

Students are encouraged to experiment with technology and explore printmaking and glass fusing with the support of a dedicated art technician. An Artist in Residence visits the school on an annual basis and encourages students to develop new ideas and sources of inspiration.

Student artwork is exhibited around the school and is regularly entered for local and national competitions and exhibitions. The School holds a very popular annual exhibition to showcase GCSE and A Level coursework and examination projects.

Co-curricular lunchtime clubs are offered in all areas. Life Class is an integral part of A Level study alongside workshops in a wide range of media.
