"Large numbers of pupils at all ages engage in music and drama of excellent quality." - ISI Inspection, April 2017
The Arts are a gateway to self-expression and help us understand the inner workings of our heart, our mind and our soul. Art can affect and challenge the way we think and feel.
At Cheadle Hulme School our students take part in a rich array of artistic activity during their time with us: music, dance, painting, concerts, philosophy, craft, theatre, photography, poetry, sculpture, drawing and much more besides - all designed to encourage our students to discover who they are, and learn how the arts reflect our culture.
Our musicians provide the soundtrack to life at Cheadle Hulme School. They are at home showing off their musical talents to audiences of all sizes. They bring many CHS events to life, from small ensembles to large choirs with students from all year groups. As a school we cater for all tastes and interests, from classical orchestras, Big Band and Jazz Group to informal sessions where students meet to compose their own music. A regular programme of lunchtime recitals provides opportunities for the whole school community to enjoy the sounds of CHS.
Our students are involved in one whole School musical and various showcase events throughout the year. Rehearsals are weekly and involve singing, dancing and acting within ensembles and as soloists. Expertise is shared across age groups and new friendships are formed within a lively, supportive and social environment. Whilst we work across the whole school for all of our events and performances, rehearsals are split between two groups, Encore (years 9-13) and Music Theatre (years 7-8).
The Annual performance in the Junior School provides the chance for every junior to perform on stage within an ensemble or as a main character. Junior performances in recent years have included 'Oliver!', 'Oz' and 'Poppins'.
The large School production takes place in the Spring term and students also enjoy regular trips to local professional productions.
The Senior School Production is a major event in the School calendar. Auditions are open to all year groups in the Upper School and rehearsals take place after school or at the weekends in the run up to productions.
Upper School and Sixth Form students have the opportunity to take part in Variety Shows in the Spring and Summer terms. These events give both students and staff the opportunity to showcase individual and group talents.
There are also opportunities for helping on the technical side of the productions.
