At CHS, our aim is to prepare students for rich, fulfilling lives beyond school. During their time with us, CHS students acquire a breadth of knowledge and our Thinking Skills Curriculum gives them the tools they need for life in further and higher education and the workplace.
By the time a student is in Year 9, they’re ready to consider how they’ll start to focus their studies, and will select their GCSE choices. This process opens conversations about what students are interested in, what they’re passionate about and in which subjects they can shine. GCSE choices are by no means ‘career deciders’ but do help consolidate a student’s goals.
In Year 11, we currently offer students the opportunity to undertake in-depth psychometric testing using the Morrisby Profile. This provides clear insight into which career opportunities might best suit each student. We create individual action plans, designed to help every student fulfil their potential. This is done through a combination of group and one-to-one sessions, events and work experience.
In Sixth Form we prepare students for the transition to Higher Education and working life. We give them Interview Practice with members of our wider school community – parents and Old Waconians who work in a diverse range of industries.
The vast majority of students at CHS decide to move on to university in the UK and at every step of the UCAS process, Careers staff are on hand alongside pastoral staff to offer advice, resources and support.
For those students who choose to take a gap year, apply for a course at university abroad or to enrol on a Higher Apprenticeship, Careers Staff are available to provide a similar level of information and advice.
Students also benefit from the knowledge and expertise of Old Waconians who regularly give talks, offer mentoring and even work placements.
