Doctor in the House
Students were full of beans when they took an inside look at the human kidney and all of its processes during a visit to the Ezekiel Browne Society by Dr Rachel Lennon from the University of Manchester.
Dr Lennon, a Wellcome Trust Intermediate Clinical Fellow and Honorary Consultant in Paediatric Nephrology at the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, took students on a journey into the microscopic detail of the make-up of the kidney and how its filter systems work.
Using volunteers, props and drawing on her extensive experience in the field, Dr Lennon captivated budding Medics and Biochemists from across the Senior School and Sixth Form.
This was the first meeting of the Ezekiel Browne Society this year, a lunchtime and after-school club which extends the intellectual horizons of students with a wide-ranging programme of guest speakers, staff and Old Waconians.
