Football Brings Peace
Talented Year Six footballer Jack recently took part in the Truce Tournament 2013, which was held in Belgium and gained national coverage. This event was organised by the Premier League to commemorate the famous football matches in No Man’s Land during the First World War.
Jack, who is a budding goalkeeper for Manchester City Academy , said: “I am proud to have been involved in this tournament and represent my team.” However, it wasn’t just football that they came to play. They also visited important war sites; including Hyde Park Corner, Flanders’s Field, and the Menin Gate.
Jack’s team finished a fantastic third in the Christmas Truce Tournament, which is a 9-a-side competition that sees clubs from all over Europe come together to contest games in an eight-team round-robin format with 15 minute halves.
