The Under-11 Boys’ and Girls’ Hockey Teams have both gained places at the National Schools’ Finals, after qualifying in the North West stages of the competition.
The North West Semi-Finals took place at Preston Arena, part of the University of Central Lancashire, and were a tough test for the boys’ team. Facing a series of formidable opponents throughout the day, they battled through and qualified after gaining a top-four placement.
Two valiant wins put the girls’ team in runner-up position at the end of the day, meaning they will also join the boys at the Finals, at the University of Leeds
The girls’ success follows-on from a string of recent accomplishments in North West tournaments. The team had a fantastic day of play at the AJIS Tournament at the beginning of March, losing only one match against the overall winners, putting them in second place.
More recently, the girls’ superb performances at the Stonyhurst Tournament, against the best in the North West, won them all individual silver medals at the end of what Team Coach, Miss Steph Chatwin described as “a thoroughly enjoyable day!”
This string of success follows the news that five of the Under-11 girls were this year selected for the Greater Manchester Development Squad.
