Jolly Hockey Juniors Join GM Squad
Five young hockey players from have been selected for the Greater Manchester Junior Hockey Development Programme.
Selection for the girls came after four gruelling trials, during which they played against the best young hockey players from schools across the region.
Scarlet Appleby, Madeline Dutton, Ella Oakes, Caitlin Polley and Alana Ranson, all in Year 6, will now represent the Greater Manchester region in the Under 12 age-group, playing in friendlies and tournaments throughout the rest of the year and testing their skills with a hockey stick at the highest level.
Ten year-old Ella, who also attends Alderley Edge Hockey Club with Madeline, Caitlin and Alana, said: “The trials were really scary. You felt under pressure to do your best, knowing you only had one chance to get it right!”
Madeline, who is 11, agreed that the four selection trials were no breeze: “We played our very best hockey but weren’t sure how well we had done until we were selected. The skills we have picked-up playing hockey at School and with the club really helped us feel confident in our playing.”
Ten year-old Caitlin added: “It’s really, really great that we’ll be representing Greater Manchester and it will be amazing to play with the best girls in the area!”
All five have also had great success as sporting ambassadors for the school, representing the CHS U11 A Team.
