Medal Winning, Record Breaking Swimmers
Junior swimmers proved dedication’s what you need in the pool, breaking records to win 11 medals at the Association of Junior Independent Schools (AJIS) Swimming Gala.
The Gala, held at Darwen Leisure Centre, is the most prestigious fixture on the CHS swimming calendar, features a very high standard of swimming from all schools in attendance and this year saw all 20 boys and girls from the Junior School secure places in the finals.
Year 5’s Jacob Atkinson led the medal winners, earning Gold in the Individual Medley in a record time; the fastest in the event since 2007. Fellow Gold winners included Matthew Griffin, Max Fisher and the two Year 5 Relay Teams, who also broke AJIS records in their events; Max Griffin, Joshua Chalk, Jacob Atkinson and Jack Bridgeman in the Medley Relay and Noah Jupe joining Joshua, Jacob and Jack for the Freestyle Relay.
Further individual success came from three Silver medallists, Joshua Chalk, Hattie Snell and Charlie Bird and three Bronze medal winners, Lizzie Pollit, Noah Jupe and Luke Ismay.
Junior School Swimming Coach, Mrs Sarah Davies said: “It really was quite an achievement to break three AJIS records in one event and to bring 11 medals home, our best ever achievement at this competition.
“There was some superb swimming from all our pupils and an excellent demonstration of team spirit as we cheered each other on.”
