On The Battle Bus
Politics students heard what it was like to spend time on the Liberal Democrats’ campaign bus when they were visited by the BBC's North West Political Editor, Arif Ansari.
Visiting as part of the School’s co-curricular Political society Think Tank, Arif talked to the students about his experience in a team of reporters covering the 2015 General Election and spending the campaign with Former Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg in a talk called ‘On the Battle Bus with Nick: The Liberal Democrats and the 2015 General Election'.
During the lunchtime event, students from across the school gathered to hear Arif’s thoughts on the different political parties, and find out about his role as a political journalist. They also discussed the Liberal Democrats' key pledges and learned about Labour and the Scottish National Party (SNP)’s ‘Bluekip’ warning.
Arif, who spent much of the campaign visiting Hazel Grove and Cheadle said: “we were right at the heart of the campaign and on the whole it was a pleasant experience.”
He also spoke of the frustrations and politics within the field of journalism as well as successfully achieving the journalist’s dream of putting a package together for BBC News at Ten.
Recent Think Tank guests at Cheadle Hulme School have also included MP for Cheadle, Mary Robinson and political broadcaster and Old Waconian, Nick Robinson.
