TeamCHS Warm Up for Next Charity Challenge

Altruistic and active runners from the CHS community are lacing up their trainers ahead of Wilmslow Half Marathon’s Corporate Challenge in aid of Teenage Cancer Trust.

TeamCHS, consisting 13 staff, 15 parents, 4 Old Waconians and 3 students were offered expert advice during a launch event at Wilmslow’s Harris and Ross physiotherapy clinic ahead of kicking off their training before the race in March.

Great Britain athlete and World and European medallist Jenny Meadows was on hand, along with her coach Trevor Painter, to give the runners top tips as well as an insight into her rigorous weekly Elite training schedule.

She said: “You need to get to know your body and plan your training properly. It can be easy to get swept up in the moment and half of the battle is your mind-set. Just don’t give up and you will get there.”

TeamCHS captain and Harris and Ross Director, Jeff Ross, is excited about the partnership with the team. He said: “We are really proud to be part of the CHS half marathon squad. We’re looking forward to facing the challenge together, and raising lots of money for Teenage Cancer Trust. We are pleased to offer our physiotherapy services to the team throughout the training process from physio, to sports massage and gait analysis- hopefully with our support every team member will make it past the finish line.”

He also offered motivational advice to the runners: “It’s important to eat well, stay hydrated and get enough sleep. Posture and core strength is especially important, make sure you spend time stretching as well – it will make the whole process easier.”

Giving a demonstration of gait analysis, podiatrist Tom Johnson filmed CHS runner and School’s Information Security Officer Paul Sadler on the treadmill to show the team what to consider when embarking upon their training. The runners will receive a free gait session as part of their training.

TeamCHS are running the Wilmslow Half in honour of students and former students who are currently battling, or have lost their battles with, cancer. Inspired by student, Callum Ballantine, who devoted the last year of his life to raising money for Teenage Cancer Trust, CHS will donate all money raised to this worthwhile charity.
