Pre-School, Infant & Junior Swimming

Swimming is on the curriculum as a weekly lesson for all Junior pupils, from Reception upwards. Pupils learn stroke techniques, underwater activities and diving, to develop their swimming ability and gain confidence in the water from a young age. Both Years 3 and 4 take part in local galas during the School year and there are inter-house galas for all Junior pupils.

Pre-School pupils will have swimming lessons in the Summer Term.

Swimming Club is available for Year 5 and Year 6, which takes place weekly. This hour long training session provides the opportunity for pupils to further develop their swimming skills and helps prepare them to compete in local and national swimming galas.

Recent successes have included the AJIS (Association of Junior Independent Schools) Swimming Gala, where CHS amassed 11 medals and set new AJIS records and a group of pupils qualified for the National Schools’ Swimming Championships

In addition there is a weekly Swimming club for Year 4 pupils and during the Summer Term a Water Polo club is offered.

The clubs take place in the School’s 20m indoor heated pool, which still retains its Victorian charm.
