The Sky at Night
Students were seeing stars when they took tent and telescope to this year’s Peak Star Party astronomy event.
The young astronomers braved a weekend of camping in the Peak District to attend the event, one of the largest of its kind in the country, which sees over 200 enthusiasts take part in practical workshops, guest lectures and take advantage of the countryside location to spy on the night sky.
Senior School and Sixth Form students tried their hand at making telescopes, observed the fascinating and ever-changing surface of the sun and competed in quizzes, learning more about space and the use of their own telescopes.
The weekend was rounded-off with the popular Bottle Rocket competition, using Physics knowledge and fizzy drinks bottles to create the highest and most elegant flyer.
