Sound The Trumpets
Musically talented Year 10 student, Sam, has achieved trumpeting success by being accepted for the National Children’s Chamber Orchestra.
Sam, who is also a keen rugby player, plays in many bands within School and will be playing in this year’s Spring Concert. This is the second time Sam has been asked to join the Orchestra Easter course and said: “It was really enjoyable last year and I met lots of people. However, it was intense practising 6-7 hours a day”.
Sam, who has been playing since the tender age of seven and has been inspired by his trumpeting idols Alison Balsam and Wynton Marsalis, has gone on to gain a fantastic Distinction in his Grade 7 exam, even though the average age for achieving this is 16!
He is now looking forward to improving his skills, whilst catching up with friends. Music Teacher, Mrs Sue Evans, thinks it is a big achievement for Sam: “It will improve his general musicianship and lift his standard of playing, plus it is very motivational!”
