Success for First XI in Barry Burns Northern Eights
Cheadle Hulme School’s talented footballers have earned another trophy for their cabinet, bringing home the Plate from the Independent Schools Football Association (ISFA) Barry Burns Northern Eights competition.
The boys secured their place in the Plate Finals following a good run of play in the opening group matches, winning three and losing two to earn them 12 points.
A 2-1 win against group-stage runners-up, Abbeygate College in the Semi-Final saw the team take on King’s Chester in the fight to win the Plate.
The tense Final ended in a goalless draw and took the teams through to a penalty shoot-out, which CHS won, 4-3.
This is the second victory for the School at the Barry Burns Eights in the last few years; in 2012 the First XI team brought home the coveted Cup after a day of excellent play, led by Old Waconian and current Sunderland striker, Duncan Watmore.
