What Is A German?
Emeritus Professor of German at the University of Manchester , Professor Martin Durrell, was welcomed into School by students all eager to hear his talk on ‘What is a German?’.
Professor Durrell, whose awards include the Bundesverdienstkreuz for services to German language and culture in October 2003, spoke to students in the Ezekiel Browne Society. Some of the teachers who attended were even the Professor’s past pupils!
Professor Durrell discussed a variety of topics surrounding language and the impact it has on nationality, ethnicity and political discussions and decisions. It was a very informative and enjoyable talk for everyone present.
Deputy Head (Academic) , Mr Steve Pagan said: “Professor Durrell provided a fascinating tour of the German-speaking regions of Europe, taking in history, culture and language.”
