Year 7 Slide About with an Old Waconian
The Music School was full of hot air in January, when Year 7 students met the Slidin’ About trombone quartet, featuring Old Waconian Paul Exton-McGuinness (Class of 2010).
The quartet met the whole of Year 7 to deliver a demonstration on the range of different trombones and to give some students a taste of playing the instrument.
A more intimate workshop took place the following week with a select group, who tried their hand with pBones, plastic trombones which are lighter and easier to play; Slidin’ About are pBone Ambassadors.
Students learnt how to hold the instrument properly, were taught the bassline to Mama Mia and tried out a glissando.
The Slidin’ About members met at the Royal Northern College of Music, where Paul went on to graduate with First Class Honours after completing his studies at CHS.
