Pre-School, Infant & Junior School
"Children in Reception demonstrate exceptional achievement. As pupils progress through Years 1 and 2, they develop their ability to solve problems, self-evaluate their work and verbalise their learning. Pupils continue to achieve excellent standards across all their areas of learning as they progress to Year 6." - ISI Inspection, April 2017
The Pre-School, Infant & Junior School is a place where your child will be supported through the vital early years of their education and challenged to fulfil their potential in both personal growth and academic attainment.
We have very high expectations of ourselves as teachers and of children as learners. All children have a natural curiosity and a desire to learn and from this foundation we help children to grow into confident, capable, enthusiastic young people with respect for their world and for those with whom they share it.
Education is a complex process and we aim to identify each child’s individual strengths and develop these, whilst helping overcome weaknesses. We offer a broad curriculum to enable all children to find the subjects in which they excel and prepare them to meet the demands of the Senior School, into which we expect them to transfer at the age of 11.
Parents often ask, "What is special about CHS?" The answer is the quality of relationships between pupils and teachers and consistently high standards of teaching across all ages and subjects. Research demonstrates the single most influential factor affecting outcomes for children is the quality of teaching they receive. I believe this is particularly important in the 3-11 age group, where teachers work in loco parentis.
We recognise that a child’s learning is most enduring and successful when that child is happy and secure. From starting school aged 4, when pupils follow the EYFS curriculum and begin their exciting journey of learning, we offer rich and exhilarating experiences to ensure that learning is purposeful and meaningful. A creative curriculum allows our children to be engaged and to become independent learners and thinkers.
I would encourage you to come and visit us and find out more. I would be delighted to meet you.
