CHS Art will ‘Bee in the City’

Two CHS Bees will join a colony of giant sculptures winging their way to the streets of Manchester this summer for ‘Bee in the City‘ – one of the most spectacular public art events the city has seen.

Artists from the Junior School and Senior School have been buzzing with enthusiasm whilst creating designs for the giant sculptures, which once completed, will show CHS off to all those visiting the city centre.

Organised by Wild In Art, the initiative will see many well-known businesses sponsor the event including Virgin trains, House of Fraser and Manchester City FC.

As part of a competition over the Easter break pupils from the Junior School worked on designs incorporating the values which are important to them in everyday life and link strongly to the CHS values.

The Juniors designed some fantastic ideas, in 2D and created 3D models. A group of eight winners were announced in assembly and have been selected to paint their ideas onto the finished sculpture;

Co-ordinator of the Junior School project, Mrs Sue Flynn said: “This project is on a huge scale involving a wide community. It is a fantastic opportunity for the children to understand the significance of the Manchester Bee, historical links and the importance of bringing people together. The children have produced some fantastic work. Now we need to work together as a team and bring all the ideas together on the sculpture.”
