Young story fans in the Junior School enjoyed two days of fiction fun when they celebrated their own Literature Week.
Day one was ‘Classic Author/Book Day’, when each class focused on a particular literary area and took part in activities based on their own chosen theme.
Reception to Year 3 studied authors including Janet & Allan Ahlberg (The Jolly Postman), Beatrix Potter, A.A Milne and Ted Hughes (The Iron Man). Year 4 considered classical poetry, Year 5 focused on Robert Louis Stevenson’s classic adventure tale Treasure Island and Year 6 learned all about classic villains.
Day two was ‘Shakespeare Day’ when all the pupils and their teachers came to School dressed as their favourite Shakespeare character. Everyone stood up in a special assembly to display their fabulous outfits.
CHS Junior School Teacher, Mrs Gladman led dramatic workshops for the Infants focusing on A Midsummer Night’s Dream, The Tempest and Macbeth, whilst visiting Skyblue Theatre Company led workshops for Year 3 & Year 4 on The Twelfth Night and for Year 5 & Year 6 on Romeo & Juliet.
Year 5 and 6 also researched the character they had decided to come to School dressed as and gave a short description to the rest of their class of who they were and what role they played in which story.
