Going The Distance

Over 200 runners from laced up their trainers for Cheadle Hulme School’s first House competition of the year – the annual Cross Country.
 
The whole School lunchtime event saw students and staff from all four housesClarke, Whitehead, Marsh and Allen – go head to head on the one-mile course around the sports field.
 
Joining 67 Senior School students, 140 Junior School pupils also showed their sporting spirit by taking part in the event for the very first time, with many crossing the line at times competitive for their age. 
 
Deputy Head of the Junior School Mr Johnson said:“Participation was the name of the game and it was wonderful to see so many juniors taking part and pushing themselves, with many of them displaying a growth mindset.”
 
Senior school runner Sam Heyworth put in a fantastic performance for Clarke coming in first place, whilst Jemma Vickers was the first girl home (Allen). The first member of staff to cross the line was Head of Year 10, Mr Jones (Whitehead).
 
Other outstanding performances came from the first runners home in each Senior year group including Year 7 students Amy and Oliver (both Clarke), Year 8’s Sophie (Clarke) and Tom (Allen), Year 9’s Flora (Allen) and Sam (Clarke), Year 10’s Jemma  (Allen) and Umead (Clarke), and Year 11 students Anna and Ben (both Allen).
 
In the Junior School, Westhead, Watts, Heywood and Langworthy house teams came first, second, third and fourth respectively, when the results of the top 20 pupils’ from each house was averaged to get the scores.
 
Clarke was the overall winning Senior School house team, and Allen claimed the runners up prize. Third place Whitehead and forth place Marsh also ran strong races displaying fantastic effort.
