The Medical Sciences Pathway will provide students wishing to pursue a career in Medical Sciences support to access a deeper understanding of the careers within this area and valuable opportunities to help them stand out in their applications to Higher Education. This pathway covers a wide range of careers, including medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, pharmacy, biomedical science and nursing.
Students are likely to be studying at least two science subjects.
Students can take any of the ‘Plus 1’ options. However, they are strongly encouraged to study Core Maths if they are not taking A Level Maths.
The EPQ also offers an opportunity for students to research a specific area of medical interest and is strongly recommended for students who are applying for university courses where selection includes an interview. Many students applying for these courses will study four subjects, plus an EPQ.
The pathway will emphasise the importance of work experience and will require students to maintain a reflective journal of their experiences. This will be complemented with a varied programme of other enrichment activities, including:
- Guest speakers
- Practice days
- Tailored support and tuition for UKCAT, BMAT and TSA tests
- Critical Thinking
- Academic Discussion Groups
Each student will design their own bespoke programme at the beginning of the year in conjunction with the staff leading the pathway.
