Developing a love of learning

Junior school academic life

We want children to love learning and that begins with feeling safe, supported and challenged. Our teaching is grounded in research and adapted to suit every child, helping them to think independently, make connections and develop a sense of ownership over their learning. Classrooms are full of energy, curiosity and creativity where pupils are encouraged to ask questions and take pride in their progress.

Alongside the core subjects of English and Maths, pupils explore a broad and balanced curriculum that includes Humanities, Science, Modern Foreign Languages and Computing. These subjects come to life through hands-on experiences, educational visits, and residential trips, helping children make meaningful connections with the world around them and develop a genuine love of learning.

Learning for Life

In the Infant School, pupils follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum and the national programme of study. At this age, learning is playful and purposeful, with a careful balance of teacher-led and child-initiated activities that support early literacy and numeracy and also each child’s emotional, social and physical development.

Our Learning for Life Programme runs through every stage of the Junior School, supporting children’s personal growth through topics such as friendships, self-confidence, leadership and teamwork. These skills are embedded in daily life and help pupils understand themselves and others around them.

We want every pupil to leave the Junior School at 11 with the knowledge, confidence and curiosity to thrive in our Senior School and to see learning not just as something they do at school, but as something that can last a lifetime.
