Beyond the Classroom

Co-curricular life in the Junior School

From sport and music to drama, clubs and trips, life beyond the classroom is a joyful part of the CHS Junior School experience. Every child is encouraged to get involved, try something new and discover what excites them.

Sport

Our aim is to give every child the chance to discover the joy of sport and grow in confidence.

We offer pupils a wide range of sporting opportunities, whatever their ability. Specialist sports lessons, including swimming begin in Reception.

All pupils who want to represent the school can do so and we value participation just as much as performance. Our approach helps children develop resilience, discipline and teamwork, while building confidence and friendships. CHS Junior school pupils regularly compete and enjoy success in rounders, swimming, football, netball and athletics.

Music and Performing Arts

Creativity takes centre stage through music, drama and performance. Whether they are preparing form a LAMDA showcase, singing in a concert or learning their first notes in class, every child has the chance to express themselves and be heard.

Music recitals and class productions run throughout the year, giving pupils the opportunity to perform to parents and peers in a supportive setting.

Clubs and Enrichment

Each term offers a mix of lunchtime and after school clubs giving pupils the chance to explore new interests, build confidence, and develop skills beyond the classroom. There is always something for everyone.

As pupils move through the school, the opportunities and choices grow with them. Options range from LAMDA and Orchestra to Gardening Club, Yoga, Netball, First News and American Football.

Trips and Events

Trips and visits are another important part of the Junior School experience. From day trips to places like Blue Planet Aquarium, Tatton Hall, Jodrell Bank to residentials in York, London, Plas Menai and Robinwood, these experiences give pupils the chance to explore the world around them and challenge themselves.

For older pupils, opportunities broaden further from ski trips in Europe to sports tours in Jersey, helping them grow in independence, expand their horizons and enjoy new adventures with friends.
