Double Plate Success for CHS Football

It was a huge day of celebration at CHS as we hosted the Stockport Schools Girls Cup Finals. Welcoming teams from across the region to CHS, where our U12 and U14 squads took full advantage of the home support to secure two hard-fought trophies.

The U12 girls faced Stockport Academy. CHS held a narrow 1-0 lead at half-time; however in the second half, they delivered a perfect performance, scoring three more goals to win 4-0. Well done to Connie, Phoebe and Eva (scoring a brace) for scoring the goals.

The U14 final was a high-drama local derby against Cheadle Hulme High School. Despite playing some great football in the opening half, CHS found themselves a goal down at half-time.

Trailing 2-0 with only eight minutes remaining, the girls really showed their Waconian value of determination when Myla found the back of the net to make it 2-1. With just one minute left, Eleanor scored from the edge of the box to level 2-2 at full-time and send the game to a penalty shootout.

The girls remained calm, winning 4-3 on penalties and officially bringing the Plate home to CHS.

Mr Wood, head of Football said, “The determination shown by the girls to stay in the game until the final whistle is what CHS is all about. To come back from two goals down in a final speaks volumes about their belief in one another as a team.”

Congratulations to all the players!
