Pathways

Shaping futures

Designed around future career ambitions

Our Pathways curriculum supports students in connecting their academic choices with their future career ambitions. Through enrichment sessions, expert speakers, placements and volunteering, often supported by our global alumni community, students gain valuable real-world experience, expand their networks, and develop the skills and insight that universities and employers are looking for.

Pathways

  • Creative Arts Pathway

The Creative Arts Pathway offers students the chance to explore a variety of art forms, building their knowledge and developing their creative skills.

While many participants study subjects like Art, Drama, English or Music, the pathway is open to students from all disciplines who are keen to broaden their experience. It is especially valuable for those considering a future in the artistic or creative industries.

  • Core & Social Impact Pathway

The Core and Social Impact Pathway combines tailored careers guidance with hands-on opportunities to volunteer in local community projects and work with children in our local partner primary schools.

Students receive support with interview preparation, assessment centres, and securing work shadowing placements throughout Year 12. The aim is for students to spend most of the Autumn Term on site, before engaging more off site in the Spring and Summer Terms through meaningful placements and community involvement.

  • Enterprise Pathway

The Business and Enterprise Pathway gives students the chance to develop real-world entrepreneurial skills from idea generation and marketing to costings and distribution. Throughout the year, pupils work collaboratively to build and refine a business concept, developing their confidence, creativity and commercial awareness. The pathway culminates in a ‘Dragon’s Den’-style pitch to a panel, where students present their business ideas and seek funding to bring them to life.

  • Medical Sciences Pathway

As well as offering specialist support, aspiring medics are provided with access to a deeper understanding of potential careers available within this area including medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, pharmacy, biomedical science and nursing.

Students can also take advantage of valuable opportunities to help them stand out in their applications to Higher Education.

Each student will design their own bespoke programme at the beginning of the year in conjunction with the staff leading the pathway.

  • Modern Language Pathway

The Modern Languages Pathway offers students the chance to deepen their language skills and cultural understanding beyond the standard curriculum. Alongside developing complementary skills for future linguists, the pathway explores how languages are used in the commercial world. Students take part in a wide range of Altruistic, Active and Academic experiences, from planning and teaching languages in local state partner schools, to visiting companies that employ linguists, celebrating linguistic diversity across CHS and Greater Manchester, entering national competitions, and exploring the cultural influences of taught languages within our city.

  • Sport Pathway

The Sport Pathway is ideal for pupils interested in developing their skills and experience in sports coaching, leadership, or teaching.

Students will need a genuine interest in sport, some knowledge of different sports and a willingness to work with children. While the focus is on coaching, the transferable skills gained from communication and organisation to leadership and teamwork are valuable across all areas of Sixth Form life and beyond.

  • STEM Pathway

The STEM Pathway prepares students for 21st-century careers in Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths. Aspiring scientists, mathematicians and engineers gain valuable content knowledge alongside hands-on, practical experiences.

Students have the opportunity to design and build their own projects, take part in guest lectures with industry professionals, and gain real-world insight through work experience, helping them build both technical skills and career confidence.
