Sixth Form Curriculum

Sixth Form

Combining academic stretch with real-world preparation, tailored to each student’s future aspirations.

academic ambition

We offer a wide choice of A Level subjects, all taught by subject specialists in small university-style tutorials where students are supported and challenged in equal measure. Our Sixth Formers are encouraged to engage deeply with their subjects, developing independent thinking and academic curiosity in preparation for university-level learning. We also offer a BTEC Level 3 Extended Diploma in Sport.

Alongside A Levels or BTEC, our Plus 1 options give students the chance to broaden their curriculum, pursue academic stretch and develop valuable skills beyond their chosen subjects. These options help students explore areas of interest, deepen their knowledge and stand out in future applications. EPQ, Core Maths and the Arts Award also carry UCAS points adding value to university admissions.

BTEC in Sport

HIGH ACHIEVEMENT, INDUSTRY EXPERIENCE

We have a strong track record of success in the BTEC in Sport, with students regularly achieving top grades. This alternative qualification provides a vocational pathway into the sports industry, combining practical experience with theoretical learning. It equips students with the knowledge and skills needed for careers in coaching, fitness, sports science, and sports management, while also preparing them for university and further study.

Our students benefit from strong links with local professional clubs across a wide range of sports, offering real-world insight into the industry.

Plus 1 options

stretch, depth and stand-out skills

  • Arts Award

The Gold Arts Award enables students to lead their own creative project in music, drama, art, or another discipline. Alongside developing their creative skills, students also gain experience in leadership, communication and reflective thinking, helping to build a portfolio that’s recognised by higher education institutions and employers.

  • Core Mathematics

Core Maths is designed for students who want to keep using maths in real-world contexts without taking a full A Level. It helps develop practical problem-solving and data analysis skills and is useful for subjects like Psychology, Biology, Geography and Economics, and for a wide range of future careers.

  • Elite Sport

This programme supports high-performing athletes to balance their sporting ambitions with academic study. It includes expert coaching, strength and conditioning sessions, sports psychology and nutrition, helping students to train at a high level while developing time management and resilience.

  • Extended Qualification Project (EPQ)

The EPQ gives students the freedom to research a topic of their choice and produce either a dissertation or a creative piece. It’s a fantastic opportunity to explore an area they’re passionate about, develop independent study skills and demonstrate critical thinking, all of which are highly valued by universities.

  • 4th A Level Subject

For students who want additional academic challenge or breadth, taking a fourth A Level is an option. This route is particularly suited to those applying for competitive university courses, such as Medicine, or those with a clear passion for a particular subject area.
