Purpose and Vision

Curiosity. Compassion. Joy. Community.

What we believe

We believe the world needs brave, confident and compassionate individuals; young people who understand themselves, respect others and are ready to make a positive difference in an ever-changing world.

At CHS, we turn out well-educated, curious young adults who do just that. And we have a clear vision of how, together as a community, we can continue to bring this purpose to life.

1. Inspiring Academic, Active and Altruistic Ambition

preparing for the future

In pursuit of an educational experience that prepares young people for the future, we deliver an academic and co-curricular programme that prepares our pupils to become the leaders, scientists, entrepreneurs, creatives and global citizens for the world of tomorrow.

The fulfillment of Academic potential is non-negotiable for our pupils, but that in itself it is not enough. To succeed in a competitive world, they also seek a wider range of experiences, skills and our Active and Altruistic strands provide the vehicle for these ambitions.

2.Embodying a Culture of Kindness

We ask everyone in our community to live by the Waconian Values of Resilience, Integrity, Endeavour, Contribution and Compassion. By doing so, we reflect the kind of world we want to help create: inclusive, tolerant and kind.

In a time when young people are navigating complex questions around identity, self-worth and belonging, often against the backdrop of a noisy, pressurised online world, we believe it is more important than ever to foster emotional literacy, confidence and empathy. At CHS, pupils are encouraged to understand themselves, support one another, and be comfortable in their own skin.

We regularly remind pupils of our founding principles – that they are fortunate to be here, and with that privilege comes a responsibility to stay open-minded, to treat others with respect, and to use their voice to lift others up.

3. Leading Lives With Purpose

We inspire pupils to lead lives with purpose by encouraging them to engage with their communities and understand the impact they can have on the world around them.

Through real-world experiences and meaningful connections, they learn that leadership, compassion, and contribution go hand in hand. Whether they’re supporting a local charity, visiting a care home, or standing up for what they believe in, our pupils come to see that even small actions can create lasting change.

4. Being Future-Minded and World Ready.

Next-Gen Waconians.

We work with partners across industry, education and our alumni community to equip our pupils with the digital literacy, future skills and confidence they need to challenge convention and shape what comes next.

Our curriculum takes our pupils beyond the constraints of the examination specifications to develop skills and proficiencies that will be essential for success in their lives beyond School. This includes building the understanding required to utilise AI tools effectively, whilst being fully aware of their limitations.

Our Big Goals by 2030

  2. A School free from discrimination where every member of the community is celebrated for who they are.
  3. Increase the number of pupils receiving financial assistance from 1 in 11 to 1 in 6 by 2030.
  4. Partner with organisations aligned with our purpose and values to create transformational work-ready experiences and spaces for our young people.
