Prep underway for Enrichment & Service Week 2026

Uncategorized

Mr Wilson, Director of Co-curricular & Partnerships shares plans for Enrichment Week 2026, one of the most anticipated highlights in our school calendar.

Activities Week is far more than a break from the normal timetable. It is an opportunity for students to develop the qualities that matter beyond the classroom – collaboration, creativity, resilience and compassion, while building friendships and trying something new.

Each year group follows a different theme. Year 7 explore the Academic, Active and Altruistic pillars of school life, Year 8 focus on activity and cultural enrichment, Year 9 develop resilience and integrity through service, and Year 10 look ahead to their future through a programme centred on service, enrichment and personal development.

Here are just a few highlights from this year’s programme.

House Choir Competition

One of the most eagerly anticipated events of the week sees Year 7 students don their House colours and work with singing mentors to prepare a performance from scratch in just one day. The competition is always fiercely contested and has even decided the overall House Championship in previous years.

Bringing Reading to the Community

In celebration of the National Year of Reading, students will share stories with children in our Nursery and Reception classes before volunteering at Cheadle Hulme Library. They will also help launch new book exchanges at Cheadle Hulme railway station, creating a lasting resource for local commuters that CHS students will continue to support beyond Enrichment Week.

Afternoon Tea Party

Service and community come together at our annual Afternoon Tea Party. Students bake, host and entertain guests from local care homes and the wider community, creating an afternoon of conversation, music and companionship that brings generations together.

One Day Film School

Year 10 students will spend the day working as production teams to write, film and edit an original silent film. The project develops creativity, teamwork and communication skills while giving students a taste of professional film production.

Community Art Installation

Working alongside local businesses and community groups, students are creating a public artwork for Cheadle Hulme. The project challenges them to respond to a real-world brief while contributing something meaningful to the local area. For many students, it is an opportunity to build a deeper connection with the community beyond the school gates.

Enrichment & Service Week captures what makes a CHS education distinctive. It encourages students to step beyond their usual routines, discover new strengths and make a positive contribution to the world around them.

We hope our students find this year’s Enrichment week both challenging and deeply rewarding.

Look out for future share stories from as many of the other activities as we can, beyond those mentioned above, showing how our students have developed personally and contributed to the world around them. We ask all students to take the time to review and reflect on their experiences so that we can continue to refine the experience for the years to come.
