World Book Day 2022

It’s 2022 and CHS has been celebrating the 25th anniversary of World Book Day – with its message for all children ‘you are a reader‘!

In the Pre-School, Infant & Junior School, Dreams was the theme and every pupil – and member of the Junior School staff – donned their pyjamas for a day celebrating books about bedtime. The Early Years enjoyed Goodnight Moon, Bananas in Pyjamas, Bedtime stories; Year 1 and 2 enjoyed Peter Pan and The BFG; for Year 3 and Year 4 their story was Tom’s Midnight Garden; and Year 5 and 6 discovered the world of Emmanuel’s Dream!

As well as a few “Stop, drop, and read” bells, exploring along the Green Path, crafting and swapping stories with other classes – it was a fun-filled day!

In the Senior School and Sixth Form pupils have also marked World Book Day; alongside their timetabled lessons pupils enjoyed watching their teachers squirm under pressure during the lunchtime World Book Day Staff Quiz, and in English Lessons, pupils enjoyed a virtual visit from Old Waconian Melissa Welliver who spoke about her life as a published author and the value of reading. Pupils even enjoyed a ‘masked reader’ quiz, guessing which member of staff was hidden behind the book.
