Course Content

The four units cover the following topics:

Paper 1: The Early Tudors 1485-1558

Paper 2: The USA in the 19th Century: Westward Expansion and Civil War 1803-c.1890

Paper 3: Russia and its Rulers, 1855-1964

Coursework essay: The Early Tudors

Course Structure

From 2015, the reformed History specification will be a linear, 2 year course:

Paper 1 – British period study and enquiry (25%)

Paper 2 – Non-British period study (15%)

Paper 3 – Thematic study and historical interpretations (40%)

Coursework (20%)

Reading and Resources

You will be issued with several core texts which you are expected to bring to lessons. At A Level it is also essential that you independently read around the topics we study during lessons. Therefore, you will be provided with a list of recommended extra reading. You will also have access to our departmental library.

Entry Requirements

Students should have achieved at least a grade 6 in GCSE History.
