Chess Juniors Through To Next Round of Tournament

Eleven U9 pupils travelled to Oldham Hulme Grammar School for the first round of the English Primary Schools Chess Association (EPSCA) tournament.

Junior School Chess Coach, Sarah Hegarty, along with several committed parents watched the pupils battle against some of the best chess-playing schools in the region.

After a hard-fought afternoon of some brilliantly competitive match play, the A team emerged as runners up and have now made their way through to the second round.

Junior School Deputy Head, Mr Myles Mason said: “The A team did a fantastic job and a special mention must also go to the B team, who were taking part for the first time, and showed great determination in winning several of their matches before unfortunately being knocked out at this stage.”
