CHS Footballers shine bright at Stockport Schools League Finals

Impressive performances from Waconian Footballers at the Stockport Schools League Finals saw CHS’s U15 girls being crowned the first ever U15 girls League winners and the U14 boys becoming finalists.

The U15 Girls Stockport Schools League Final saw a spectacular performance from CHS’s U15 girls, who triumphed over Marple Hall School with a decisive 6-1 victory.

Leading the charge was Waconian Izzy, who scored a remarkable 15 minute hattrick in the first half, with team member Sophie making it 4-0 five minutes before half time. Marple pulled one back on the stroke of half time, making the score 4-1.

Sophie got her 2nd goal five minutes into the second half to make it 5-1, before Izzy finished off the scoring making the full time result 6-1.

Mr Leigh Wood, CHS Head of Football commented on the match: “A great performance from the team tonight, I couldn’t be more proud. They have worked really hard all year and deserve to be crowned the first ever U15 Girls Stockport Schools League Champions. It’s a great way to finish the year off.

The U14 Boys Stockport Schools League Final saw a CHS 0 v 4 Hazel Grove result. The first half was competitive, with both teams creating promising chances. However, Hazel Grove broke the deadlock just before halftime, leaving CHS trailing 0-1 at the break.

The second half began evenly, but a long-distance shot followed a swift goal from Hazel Grove’s forward made it 2-0, and then a quick third meant Team CHS were chasing the game. Despite this, the boys never let their heads drop, playing some good football and moving the ball well, but just couldn’t find that elusive goal to get back into the game. The 4th goal came in the last few minutes with CHS pushing forward, Hazel Grove hitting them on the counter attacker.

Mr Leigh Wood commented: “A disappointing result, but I can’t fault the teams effort. I’m proud of every one of them, they kept going and created chances right up to the final whistle. The team are a credit to the School.”
