CHS supports TEDxManchester Bursary Programme

CHS is proud to announce it is supporting TEDxManchester’s 2023 Bursary programme.

The programme offers free and reduced price tickets to those wishing to apply to attend the independently organised annual conference at The Bridgewater Hall in March, when speakers from various fields step into the spotlight to share ideas and inspire a wide audience of different ages, backgrounds and interests.

With 1 in 12 CHS Senior School pupils currently receiving financial support generated by the School’s own Bursary Fund, CHS’s values and philanthropic foundation closely aligns with TEDxManchester’s Bursary Programme.

Commenting on CHS’s unique connection to this year’s TEDxManchester theme, ‘Eyes Wide Open’, CHS Deputy Head (Academic), Mr Nick Axon said: “Just like the inspiring line-up of speakers confirmed for this year’s TEDxManchester conference, CHS encourages its Waconians to approach everything with their own ‘eyes wide open’ by developing their desire to learn, question, and persevere in all they do so they can become the best versions of themselves whilst making a positive impact on the world around them. And like the aim of CHS’s Bursary Fund, it’s only natural for the School to support TEDxManchester in its own efforts to maximise these kinds of opportunities. Together we have some exciting weeks ahead of us.”

Founder of TEDxManchester, Herb Kim said: “At its best, we believe TEDxManchester helps people connect or re-connect with a love for learning. Hence, we’re extraordinarily happy to be working this year with the Cheadle Hulme School which has been bringing the light of education to Manchester for over 165 years. Among other things, the Cheadle Hulme School’s support allows us to bring back the Bursary Programme which will give up to 40 people the chance to attend TEDxManchester who might not have otherwise been able to do so. The TEDxManchester Bursary Programme allows us to make the TED “ideas worth spreading” mission as accessible as possible to all interested in participating.

The partnership follows the School’s recent ‘chEd Talk’ event which welcomed previous TEDxManchester speaker and renowned Palaeontologist and communicator of science, Dr. Dean Lomax – whose talk about unearthing the Rutland ‘Sea Dragon’ was selected to appear on the worldwide TED.com network.

Stay tuned for more exciting CHS x TEDxManchester news to follow – including details of how our own Waconians will be getting involved over the coming weeks.

TEDxManchester takes place at The Bridgewater Hall on Saturday 4 March 2023. Applications for the Bursary Programme are now open.
