Diving into water safety with Becky Adlington
Junior School Waconians were treated to a visit from Olympic medallist Becky Adlington to talk all things swimming and water safety.
Becky was crowned Britain’s first Olympic swimming champion since 1988, when she won two gold medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics. Since retiring from competitive swimming, Becky has been making waves in the swimming community by taking on the role of Brand Director at Swim.
CHS has been partnered with the company since August 2023, offering child led, tailored swim programmes for children aged 3-11. Through this collaboration, Waconians have the chance to train as lifeguards and swimming instructors, gaining invaluable life skills, all while being part of the Swim@CHS team.
The aspiring athletes listened as Becky spoke about her career as a competitive swimmer, highlighting the dedication and rigorous training regimen she embarked on from the age of 11.
Becky also emphasised the importance of water safety to the Waconians, and shared a few top tips to help keep safe during the Summer time.
Mr Vincent Weightman, CHS Junior School Head said: “The Junior School had the privilege of hosting record breaking, multi – Olympic Medallist Becky Adlington on Friday. As our young pupils listened to her journey, they learned that greatness is not achieved overnight, but through relentless effort, unwavering determination, and a big dose of the Waconian Value Resilience. Becky’s visit not only inspired our children to dream big but also reminded them that with passion and resilience, any goal can be within reach.”
