It’s been another set of impressive GCSE results for CHS’s Year 11 students, who are celebrating with 68% of grades awarded at A*-A or 9-7.
40.4% of those grades were A*, 9 or 8; 5 students were awarded an outstanding 11x A*s or higher, with over 10% of students achieving 9x A* or higher. 7 students received grade 9s in all relevant subjects.
Topping the School’s results table, Jack Nolan and Kirsty Dickson led the way receiving 12 A* or higher (A^ is higher than A*) or 9 grades. Peter Langton received outstanding results gaining 11x A* or 9 grades with Oscar Cooper receiving A*(4), 9(5), 8(2) and Lydia Wong achieving A*(5), 9(4), 8.
Jack who received A^, A*(5), 9(6) and would like to read Maths at University said: “I didn’t really know what to expect and did better in my trials than I’d thought so I’m really pleased and looking forward to studying my favourite subjects as part of CHS’s STEM pathway in the Sixth Form.”
Kirsty’s A*(6), 9(6) grades include a Latin GCSE which she received in Year 10, and says she would like to pursue a career in medicine so will be combining CHS’s Medical Science Pathway with her love of French in the Sixth Form. She said: “I’ve got a bit of time to relax but am looking forward to a busy start to the term, getting involved with all aspects of the Sixth Form including co-curricular club, Med.Soc.”
Cheadle Hulme School’s new Head, Mr Neil Smith, who will take up the position from September, said: “Once again pupils at CHS have achieved a fantastic set of results which reflects of all their tremendous hard work, commitment and support from their dedicated teachers. They should be congratulated on these magnificent results which will give them the ideal platform for continued success in the Sixth Form and beyond.”
Alana Ranson says her A*(5), 9(2), 8(2) grades were better than she expected and now has a tough decision to make but it will definitely include studying Spanish at CHS to keep her career options open. She said; “if I could tell any students preparing for their GCSEs anything I’d say try not to worry, just work hard and do your best.”
Also planning to pursue CHS’s STEM Pathway in Sixth Form, Daniel Gascoyne, who acheived A^, A*(4), A, 9(2), 8(2), said he’s very pleased with his results attributing some of his success to his teachers. He said: “Whilst science is what I enjoy, Mrs Dalton did an amazing job of getting me into English and I got an 8 for both Literature and Language.”
Matthew Jones received A*(4), 9(2), 8(3) and has an interest in science but will follow CHS’s Core Pathway in the Sixth Form which will allow him to keep his options open. He said: “I’m very happy, I’m still not sure what I want to do yet but chose the Core Pathway which means I can also volunteer at a local primary school.”
With a passion for sports, Lucas Newton says receiving A^, A*(4), 9(5) means he can now look forward to playing football and cricket alongside his studies in CHS’s Sixth Form. “I love playing Cricket and start pre-season training next week, it’ll be great to keep that up next year.”
Gymnast Lauren Jones, who has been selected as part of England Women’s Artistic Squad and who has recently joined an elite gymnastics club, is a step closer to achieving her dream career after receiving A^, A*(4), 9(3), 8. She said: “I’m really happy I can study biology in CHS’s Sixth Form, I’d like to become a physiotherapist so I can help other gymnasts like myself.”
Further high fliers achieving top marks include Georgina Whittaker who received A^, A*(4), 9(4), 8 and Katie Brewer who scored A*(4), A, 9(5).
Also celebrating high scores, 100% of Music and Greek grades achieved were graded at 9-7, and 100% of Drama grades awarded were A*-B.
