Holocaust Survivor Tomi Komoly Visits CHS

Year 9 Waconians were deeply moved yesterday as they heard the powerful testimony of Holocaust survivor, Tomi.

The visit, organised by the Holocaust Educational Trust as part of their extensive nationwide Outreach Programme, provided a crucial opportunity for pupils to engage directly with the history of the Holocaust and explore its enduring lessons.

Born in Budapest in 1936, Tomi shared how his father was conscripted into forced labour and tragically killed in 1944. Tomi and his mother endured the terror of the war, finding refuge in Swedish protected houses before their liberation in January 1944.

Mrs Charlotte Nixey, Head of Year 9 said: ‘Tomi was inspiring to listen to, not only sharing his personal story of survival but giving a voice to those who didn’t. He helped us all to understand how important it is to never be the bystander and stand up whenever we see something that is wrong. His talk will stay with all of us who listened to it forever and we were so grateful for the opportunity to bear witness to it.’

Following Tomi’s testimony, pupils participated in a thoughtful question and answer session.

Thank you to Tomi for visiting CHS and sharing your experience with our Waconians. You can read more about Tomi on the Holocaust Educational Trust website here.
