Miss Hateley selected for England Hockey Squad

CHS’s Assistant Director of Sport, Miss Sacha Hateley, has recently been selected to play for the England O40s Hockey team at the upcoming European Championships in Valencia and the Home Nations tournament in Glasgow.

The selection involved four rigorous full-day trials held at Wrekin College, with each session focusing on demonstrating various hockey skills and tactical awareness through numerous game-based scenarios. The first trial saw over 100 participants, which was gradually reduced to 35 by the final trial, with 18 players being chosen ultimately to represent England in the European Championships.

“Finding out I had been selected was an incredible feeling. I was so proud of myself for making it through the entire process. At the same time, I felt a wave of relief mixed with nerves. It’s difficult to put into words, but it was a powerful and unforgettable moment.

For Miss Hateley, balancing school training with her own role is a challenge she meets head-on. “On Saturdays, it’s not unusual at the end for me to dash from school fixtures straight to my own matches, making sure I arrive in time for pushback and that I’ve properly fuelled my body beforehand.

By balancing both roles, Miss Hateley hopes to inspire students by “proving that it’s possible to pursue a career while also being a committed athlete.”
