Next Stop Singapore for CHS Lightning!

The saying goes that lightning never strikes twice, but it’s a different story for CHS’s F1 in Schools team – whose next stop is competing at the World Championships in Singapore after becoming the UK National Champions!

After an exciting weekend at the F1 in Schools 2023 National Final in Birmingham, beating 19 other teams in the coveted STEM competition’s Development Class, the team also have an array of awards to add to their Championship Title!

The team’s wins include Best Pit Display, Best Verbal Presentation and Best Engineered Car! Waconian Audrey, who is CHS Lightning’s Team Leader, also won a new award from Girls on Track, an organisation which promotes women’s involvement in motorsport.

F1 in Schools presenter Tom Deacon noted he’d “never seen a team get up onto stage so fast!” The two day competition was broadcasted live on the F1 in Schools YouTube channel, and can still be watched now.

CHS’S F1 in Schools Coordinator & DT Technician, Mr Angus Tulloch said: “The team worked incredibly hard – each contributing to the success of the project with their own skills – putting their hearts into the design of the cars, immersing themselves in new areas of engineering, working out how to get the most out of cutting-edge software. All to end up with a beautifully designed car, a set of very impressive design portfolios and incredibly professional verbal presentations. The judges were blown away by the quality of their work.”

Aside from ongoing hard work, support from sponsors is an essential aspect of the F1 in Schools Competition. Thank you to CHS Lightning’s continuing sponsors Aston Martin Manchester, Oliver Chapman Investments, Constant Group, ANSYS and Old Mission Capital.

The team are now preparing to travel to Singapore to compete in the F1 in Schools World Championships later this year! Keep updated with the team’s race to the finish line on their mini site here.
