Record breaking week for CHS athletics
CHS’s athletics programme is celebrating a great week of achievements, with pupils breaking long-standing records in various disciplines, leaving their mark in the School’s sporting history.
Year 10 student Joel S not only broke the Year 10 Hurdles record by two seconds with a time of 12 seconds in the 80m hurdles, but this achievement also marks his third current School record. Adding to the year 10 success, athletics team captain Maya R broke a 14-year-old School record by one second with a run of 5 minutes and 28 seconds in the 1500m.
Daisy T set a new year 10 hurdles record with a time of 16.3 seconds. For a few days, Daisy also held 3 hurdle records, until her younger sister, Florrie T, broke Daisy’s record. Florrie broke the Year 8 hurdles record with an impressive run of 15 seconds, shaving 0.7seconds off her sister’s record.
Myla T from Year 8 demonstrated endurance and speed in the 800m, setting a new year 8 record of 2 minutes 36 seconds, beating the previous best by one second.
Over on the field, Year 7 student Darcey B broke the record in Javelin. Her throw of 20.86 metres secured her a new year 7 record by over two metres.
“This week has been an incredible time for our athletics programme,” said Mr Brooks-Barnes.
“To witness so many records get broken, and for our students to achieve such impressive times and distances, is a testament to their hard work and dedication. With the majority of the season ahead of us, I am excited to see how many more will be broken.”
