Running Success for Charlie and Archie

Year 8 students Charlie and Archie raced their way to success when they took part in the 2018 North of England Cross Country Championships.

Both representing their local club, Sale Harriers, the pair took to the challenge and picked up gold medals for contributing to their team’s winning performance.

Taking part in the U13 championship course at Leeds’ Harewood House, 232 boys – selected as the top-performers in their various athletics clubs – represented teams from Newcastle to Derby.

The race was 3km across tough terrain in blustery conditions but both boys impressed – Archie came 22nd and Charlie took 34th place, just six seconds later.

The times of the top 4 runners from each club counted towards the team competition and their placings were added together to create the team score.

Sale Harriers U13 Boys were crowned 2018 U13 North of England Cross Country Team Champions – Archie and Charlie were in the top 4 so both were awarded Gold medals.

Both boys are having a fantastic season with some big races still to come including the National Cross Country Championships in London in February.

Year 11 student Sam Heyworth also took part in the event and showed resilience, putting in another impressive performance after returning from injury.
