‘Tis the Season To Give Back

This holiday season, our School Community has been undertaking a number of altruistic activities to spread some festive cheer.

Coffee and Carols Afternoon

A dedicated team of Waconians, from Year 7 to Lower Sixth, devoted an afternoon to spread joy and warmth among the local community’s elderly residents.

The team organised a delightful Afternoon Tea, blending festive cheer with delicious treats plus a game of Bingo, ensuring a memorable gathering for everyone involved.

For most, the highlight of the afternoon was the heart warming Carol Singing by our Waconians, where everyone came together to sing the classics of the festive season. By dedicating their time and effort, these Waconians not only brought smiles to the faces of the over 50 residents at local care homes, but also a sense of community spirit and compassion.

The Wellspring Rucksack

The CHS Upper School’s commitment to the Wellspring Rucksack Project has continued. Each year, the students assemble rucksacks filled with vital contents aimed at aiding the homeless and those vulnerable to housing insecurity during the winter.

Among the contents are not just basic necessities but also crucial comfort items: a warm sleeping bag to offer respite from the cold, a roll mat for added insulation, a sturdy torch to navigate the darkness, a flask to provide warmth and sustenance, along with essential accessories like hats and gloves and a pack of toiletries. Each item was packed with care, understanding the impact it can have on someone enduring the harsh realities of homelessness.

Collection for Asylum Seekers

The Lower School took on their annual mission aimed to spread joy among hotel-accommodated asylum seekers with Greater Manchester. The students collected toys, aiming to bring happiness to children who might otherwise have been without gifts this year.

Their efforts resulted in the culmination of 176 selection boxes and 185 presents to support this cause. Manchester Refugee Support Network emerges as a beacon of hope, tirelessly working to provide asylum seekers and refugees across Greater Manchester with the essential support needed for a life of dignity.
