Waconian publishes debut novel

CHS is thrilled to celebrate the remarkable achievement of Year 11 Waconian Freya, whose debut novel Sincerley, Cilla is set for international release this Friday.

Driven by a desire to create compelling characters, Freya began writing the novel at 15, developing her ideas and sketching out plot lines in her free time.

The initial spark came from a single character, Priscilla Doherty,” Freya says. “I then built the story around her, adding layers of complexity and introducing other key characters like Priscilla’s younger brother, Dakota.”

The novel tells the story of Priscilla, a young woman living in a small Texas town who grapples with the legacy of her recently deceased grandfather, whose past holds a dark secret. The novel explores powerful themes of family, prejudice, and the burden of inherited stigma.

Balancing school with writing a debut novel was a challenge, but Freya sought advice and support not only from friends and family but also from CHS Head of English, Mrs. Alex Vyce, who read one of Freya’s early chapter drafts and provided invaluable feedback.

“Freya’s passion for storytelling and her vivid imagination have made her a pleasure to teach and I am absolutely delighted to see that her talent and dedication can now be enjoyed by a much wider audience.

“She has a maturity well beyond her years which has allowed her not only to create captivating characters and vivid worlds but also to bewitch her readers with sharp wit.  I fully expect her to become a bestselling author and screenwriter – I doubt it will take very long!”

Sincerely, Cilla is available to buy here.
