Waconian sailor offered brilliant opportunity

SportAid UK and CHS Athlete, Siân Talbot has received invitations for both the RYA UK Youth Squad (29er) and the 29er Class national Squad but accepted the latter.

This comes after a busy year competing in lots of competitions including the Summer Championships held in Torbay where she placed 1st in junior team, 3rd in all female team, and 6th overall out of 18.

She also competed in a UK Grand Prix at Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy where she placed 19th overall, 1st in junior team and 5th in the all-female team.

Siân is very dedicated to sailing, she said: “I think it’s so much fun. I spend almost every weekend training but if I have a competition coming up I will train all week for it.”

Her love of sailing came from a family trip in the Lake Districts: “My parents always used to go on walks but I found that boring so we started sailing on our trips. I started to progress and like it a lot and then got into competitions.”

Siân’s next competition is in Lake Garda, in Italy over the half term. Well done Siân, we wish you the best of luck!
