Medical Sciences Pathway

Students wishing to pursue a career within the field of Medical Science can follow a dedicated Pathway at CHS.

As well as offering specialist support, aspiring medics are provided with access to a deeper understanding of potential careers available within this area including medicine, dentistry, veterinary science, pharmacy, biomedical science and nursing.

Students can also take advantage of valuable opportunities to help them stand out in their applications to Higher Education.

Each student will design their own bespoke programme at the beginning of the year in conjunction with the staff leading the pathway.

Students are likely to be studying at least two science subjects.

Plus1

Students can take any of the ‘Plus 1’ options.  However, they are strongly encouraged to study Core Maths if they are not taking A Level Maths.

The EPQ also offers an opportunity for students to research a specific area of medical interest and is strongly recommended for students who are applying for university courses where selection includes an interview.  Many students applying for these courses will study four subjects, plus an EPQ.

The pathway will emphasise the importance of work experience and will require students to maintain a reflective journal of their experiences.  This will be complemented with a varied programme of other enrichment activities, including:

  • Guest speakers
  • Practice days
  • Tailored support and tuition for UKCATBMAT and TSA tests
  • Critical Thinking
  • Academic Discussion Groups
